Open Links from Mail and Calendar App in Chrome Instead of Edge in Windows 11 - Set Default Browser

By default, web links in emails you receive through the Windows Mail and Calendar app open in the Microsoft Edge browser. If you want the links to open in the Chrome browser instead of Edge every time you click on them, the easiest way to do that in Windows 11 is selecting Chrome as the default browser in Windows Settings.

  • Go to Windows Settings (keyboard shortcut: Windows button + I) / Apps / Default Apps / Google Chrome.
  • In the Google Chrome / Make Google Chrome your default browser section click on the Set default button.

    Hi there, my default browser was already set to FireFox but after a Windows or Office 365 update, the arrogant jerks at Microsoft changed the settings without my permission under the Outlook options to open hyperlinks in Edge. Took me three days to figure it out. Grrr!

    Anyone frustrated, here’s how I solved it:
    1. In Outlook, open File at top left.
    2. Scroll down and select Options.
    3. Select Advanced.
    4. Under File and browser preferences you’ll see the option to open hyperlinks. In the dropdown, select Default Browser.

    Et voila!

      Thank you! It has been bothering me for a couple of weeks. MS has many sneaky ways to get around default choices not set their way.

    Thanks for that Corena. I was going mad over this. Your fix was clear, concise and correct! I thought MS had a class action lawsuit when they had IE baked into their OS. Now they are saying Edge cannot be uninstalled. How about another class action lawsuit.
